My Notebook hard disk DST check is failed and I somehow managed to open into my desktop. And I'm afraid that its not going to last for the long. So I want to install a new hard disk into my notebook. I bought my notebook pre-installed with Windows 8.1 and I upgraded to Windows 10 for free. And I don't have the product key.
So can I backup my Windows 10 OS only and install the same Windows 10 OS on my new hard disk ??
To do this right, you really need a 3rd disk... you need a USB external hard drive that you can use to backup your existing system (before it fails). Then you'd be able to swap the internal hard disks in your laptop and do a complete restore operation from the external hard drive.
You could probably take your laptop to an electronics store and they can do all this for you for a nominal fee.

Image Backup:
1- Right-click the Start button and launch Control Panel.
2- Click File History.
3- While in File History, click the System Image Backup link in the bottom-left corner of the screen.
4- Connect an external USB hard drive with enough free space.
5- In the backup wizard, you'll be prompted to choose from one of the three options to save the backup. For this example, we are going select the hard drive you just connected. However, keep in mind that you can backup to DVD blanks and a network share, but these options will slow down the backup process.
6- Click Next.
7- Confirm and begin the process by clicking Start backup.
So this is way I can backup my Laptop OS ? So will it backup my Windows 10 with the key ?

Yes, the "image backup" will contain everything... essentially a "snapshot" of your entire disk.
When it comes time to do the recovery, you'd boot your system from this external drive and the recovery will put your system back the way it was. So, you won't be installing Windows a second time (so you won't be prompted for key)
Take a look at this article that explains it in a bit more detail

Now might be the best opportunity to treat yourself to the best upgrade one can have which is an SSD, since their price is quite affordable and they are lightning fast - faster than a high end PC without one.
I'd also strongly consider doing the Clean Install Windows 10 following the steps in the link which have no reported problems, compared to the Upgrade or Factory install (is this both) which can cause endless issues. It explains in the WIki link how to skip the Product Key during installation and it will reactivate afterwards when you connect to the internet with the Digital License permanently assigned to your PC in Windows Activation Servers when first Upgraded.
If you decide you'd rather try imaging, I'd use Macrium Reflect is a Free and Easy To Use Backup Utility to back up the image from it's installed app to an external drive, also make the bootable Rescue media so after you swap in the new drive you can boot the media to restore the saved Windows partitions to the drive. Macrium makes it easy by allowing you to drag the needed partitions to the new drive and they will adjust their size to fit, or you can highlight any partition to manually slide it's borders to where you want them.
Creating a backup image of your computer, drive or partitions
Rescue a system with the Windows PE environment
You can probably find a video online to show how to replace the hard drive for your model PC by asking Google. It's normally as easy as opening the port underneath to unscrew the hard drive and replace it firmly in the contacts. If you tell us the exact make/model PC we can help you find what you need.

Hi Laura
If you're worried about the license, your PC is registered already, through the motherboard. So it isn't necessary to transfer the OS over, just clean install it on the new disk and it will reActivate when you connect to the 'net..

If I Reset my Windows 10, what will happen ?
Will it downgrade back to initial installed version(Windows 8.1) or will delete all the file and documents and remains in Windows 10 as fresh PC ?

But I don't have a idea on Clean Install . What does it means?, what is its operation?, when and how can be done?

Reset Your Windows 10 PC reinstalls the present OS while it allows you to keep your files. But your files should always be backed up anyway against hard drive failure.
If your PC has Factory Recovery on it that would return it to Factory condition with the OS it came with. But I would not do that since you'd need to Upgrade again and that is not as good of an install as the Reset or the vastly superior Clean Install Windows 10.
I hope this helps.
